Description
A thorough trek along very nearly all of the remaining track bed between Midhurst and Chichester. The emphasis was on recording the whole journey and spotting all remaining bridges, distance markers, gradient markers and any others points of interest along the way. Every effort is made (as usual !) to access even the most awkward and overgrown areas. Due to the fact that this line ran through the Downs, there are some of the most spectacular cuttings, tunnels and embankments to be seen on any of the disused lines in Sussex.
Permission to access Cocking station was sadly not gained for this film, but a warm welcome awaited me at Singleton station where full roaming rights were given and there was plenty to see. The current owner has been there since 1955 and has done little to change it, other than making a huge bonfire out of the platform canopies some time in the 1960s.
Contents include:
- The burst culvert which severed the line at Midhurst in 1951.
- All three tunnels filmed from both ends.
- Numerous bridge crossings, some complete, some demolished.
- Singleton station layout in detail including subways, goods shed, crane and water tower.
- Lavant station.
