Midhurst to Pulborough Trackbed Explored

Description

A thorough trek along very nearly all the remaining track bed between Midhurst and Pulborough (Hardham Junction), partly on foot and partly by bike. The emphasis was on recording the whole journey and spotting all remaining bridges, distance markers, gradient markers and any others points of interest along the way. Every effort is made (as usual !) to access even the most awkward and overgrown areas.

Starting at the site of the LBSCR station in Midhurst, having a crafty look in the tunnel from both ends, then working across delightful countryside to the east. The stunning views across Ambersham common are followed by views of the earthworks and access road at the site of the never completed Ambersham station. Views across the polo field near Selham and then a crafty look at Selham station itself. Further east saw nice, open, cyclable track before reaching Petworth station, where a warm welcome awaited and a nice cream tea !

Full permission to film the delightful Petworth station was granted and views from every angle obtained. Moving east via Shopham bridge with lovely views across the Rother valley towards Fittleworth, the track was very overgrown in places, but numerous great views were found.

Fittleworth station was not filmed in detail as permission was not forthcoming, but track bed views very close by including the road bridge are included. The final stretch to Hardham Junction was part overgrown then gloriously open for about the final mile. A detailed final shot of the junction with the current Pulborough to Arundel line closes the film.
