Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed your Isle of Wight Blackgang road DVD.
It reminded me of my youth in the mid-1950s when my brother and I would scramble down the well-worn unofficial footpaths to the beach from what remained of the road – a lot more road still intact in those days! We always used to walk along the road from the Blackgang end – not Niton. In those days, the fountain always spouted cool refreshing water that was very welcome refreshment on a hot day.
For the record, the inscription over the fountain was “Nectar Of The Gods” – funny what you remember from 65-odd years ago.
